Finally a reason to want to go to Pasadena.

I’m predicting a Texas win.

The BCS Screws TCU and Boise State to Protect the Major Conferences

Sunday, December 6th, 2009

12 - 0 TCU headed to Fiesta Bowl.

TCU and Boise State, both unbeaten, are going to BCS bowl games. Sounds fair, doesn’t it? The system must be working.

Well, it’s not so great when they have to play each other. It turns out that both teams are headed to the Fiesta Bowl. Now neither team has a chance to prove how they stack up against the major conferences. I don’t think Georgia Tech, Iowa, or Cincinnati could beat either of these two teams. But now we’ll never know.

This was a brilliant and disingenuous move on the part of the BCS. They can claim the system works because both TCU and Boise State got in while making sure that the supposed power conferences don’t get beaten by non-BCS schools. This game is a sham.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m still going to watch it and I think it will be a great game. But it is meaningless and proves nothing. These schools deserve better.

It was ugly, but it’s a win – Texas 13, Nebraska 12

Colt McCoy celebrates as Texas heads to the National Championship Game

Texas will face Alabama for the National Championship.

Last night Texas (#3) defeated Nebraska (#21) 13 to 12 on a 46-yard field goal by Hunter Lawrence as time expired. Texas remains undefeated and will meet Alabama in January in the National Championship Game.

This was a really ugly win. Nebraska’s defense played great, as did the Texas defense. No one expected much scoring by Nebraska, but Texas was supposed to score. Despite being a 14 point underdog, Nebraska was 1 second away from pulling off a huge upset.

Nebraska took a 12 to 10 lead with a 42-yard field goal with 1:44 left. Based on Texas’ offensive performance so far in the game, it didn’t look like they were going to be able to pull off another last minute comeback. Nebraska looked to have the game won. But the wheels fell off for Nebraska.

First, they kicked the ball out of bounds giving Texas the ball at the 40-yard line. Then McCoy completed a pass to Jordan Shipley for a first down. But Nebraska made a horse-collar tackle on Shipley adding another 15 yards to the completion which put Texas in field goal range. At this point, it looked like Texas was going to pull off the comeback. It was down to 3rd and 13 from the 29 yard line. Texas had one time out with 8 seconds left. And then it happened.

Colt McCoy hung on to the ball too long as he rolled right and threw the ball out of bounds under heavy pressure from the Nebraska defense. The clock was down to 0 seconds as the Nebraska sidelines flooded onto the field with an apparent upset victory. But after a review, 1 second was added to the clock giving Texas the opportunity to kick the game winning field goal. And the rest is history.

Tennessee 20, Arizona 17. Vince Young is Clutch!

Vince Young throws for 387 yards.

Vince Young wins again!

This was a GREAT game! The Titans pulled off a last-second, come-from-behind victory over the Cardinals.

Vince Young drove the Titans 99 yards and converted on 3 fourth downs to win the game with a 10 yard touchdown pass to Kenny Britt with no time left on the clock.

This win was reminiscent of his many last minute heroics as a Texas Longhorn with the most memorable being his win over Michigan in the Rose Bowl in 2005 and his win over USC in the National Championship Game in 2006. Vince Young was the offensive MVP in both games.

Vince’s NFL career is beginning to blossom. This is the 5th straight win since he returned to the starting line-up after Tennessee went 0-6 without him. It’s his 9th straight win as a starter. Overall, he’s 23-11. Not bad.

Keep it up Vince.

My hometown team TCU (#4) finishes the regular season 12-0 after a 51-10 blowout of New Mexico. They won the Mountain West Conference and should be going to their first BCS bowl game. I’m betting they win their bowl game. I’m very happy for TCU and the town of Fort Worth, TX.

Cowboys Blow Out The Raiders 24-7

How ’bout those Cowboys!

The Cowboys move to 8-3 and remain in control of the NFC East after a blow-out win over the lowly Raiders. They had lots of big plays and the running game looked great. Thanksgiving is alway better when the Cowboys win.

Texas 49, Texas A&M 39

Colt McCoy rushes for career high 190 yards.

Colt McCoy rushes for a career high 175 yards.

Texas (#3) moves to 12-0 after a hard-fought victory over Texas A&M. Texas had a great game from Colt McCoy and A&M had a great game from their QB, Jerrod Johnson. But Texas had more big plays and won the turnover battle.

Next up is Nebraska in the Big 12 Championship Game in Arlington, TX at Cowboys Stadium.

From the Fort Worth Star-Telegram – Colt McCoy headlines Davey O’Brien finalists

McCoy, a senior, set an NCAA career record for victories by a starting quarterback during No. 3 Texas’ 51-20 triumph over Kansas on Saturday night in Austin. McCoy, 43-7 in four seasons as Texas’ starter, eclipsed the mark held by former Georgia quarterback David Greene (42).

The NCAA leader in completion percentage (72.96 pct.) this season, McCoy has thrown for 3,024 yards and 23 touchdowns while leading the Longhorns (11-0, 7-0 in Big 12) to a Big 12 South Division title and a berth in the Big 12 Championship Game, Dec. 5 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. McCoy ranks 10th nationally in pass efficiency, with a 152.33 rating, and is 12th in total offense (292.5 yards per game).

McCoy is an O’Brien finalist for the second consecutive year. He also was a runner-up for the 2008 Heisman Trophy.

How ’bout Them Cowboys ?!

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

The Cowboys topped the Redskins 7-6 today in what can only be described as the worst football game I’ve watched all year. The Cowboys were terrible and if not for a few missed field goals by the Redskins, they would have lost.

But they’re 7-3 now and leading the NFC East, so I’ll take it.

Texas 51, Kansas 20
